Competency/Placement Exams

Competency Exams

The Mathematics Department requires any student who completes and passes a summer course or online course to take and pass a comprehensive competency assessment in that subject to receive credit and placement for that course. This procedure ensures that students who take a summer course or an online course outside of the Piscataway Township Schools meet the Piscataway School District standard of proficiency.

The full procedures and acknowledgement form can be found here.

Below please find outlines for each assessment that is given. A student planning to take one of these required exams should refer to the outline for that exam to be fully prepared for the concepts that will be tested. Additional support resources are also included in each document.

Placement Exams

In order to properly place students who are entering Piscataway High School from another district, the Mathematics Department requires all newly-registered students to take a placement exam for the course in which they plan to enroll. These exams are based on prior knowledge and will be used along with transcripts and other information to determine placement.
