PARCCPARCC Letter to Parents March 2017.pdf

Dear Parents/Guardians:

This will mark the third year that New Jersey public schools are required by the Department of Education to administer
the PARCC, a state-sponsored assessment that measures student achievement in English Language Arts (ELA) and
Mathematics. A student is required to take three assessments in ELA and three assessments in Mathematics.

Below is the schedule of the Piscataway High School testing time frame:
  • English Language Arts (April 19th - April 27th) English l, ll, llI

  • Mathematics (April 28th - May 8th) Algebra l, Algebra ll, and Geometry

  • Make-ups (May 9th - 12th) All courses listed above

This schedule has been planned to minimize, as much as possible, the impact on classroom instruction.

All students in these courses will take the PARCC. Please note the following important information regarding PARCC:

  • For the Classes of 2017-2019, it is a graduation requirement assessment option along with Pathways to Meet the Graduation Assessment.

  • For the of Class of 2020 students must take all PARCC assessments associated with the high school level courses for which they were enrolled and receive valid scores in order to use any of the assessments in the Pathways to Meet Graduation Assessment Requirements.

  • For the Class of 2021 students must pass ELA 10 and Algebra l for their Graduation Assessment Requirement.

For the Classes of 2017-2019, if any condition affects your student’s ability to take the test, please provide a hard-copy
letter with your signature (no emails or forms) to the principal’s office by April 5, 2017. This letter must indicate which
NJDOE approved alternative assessment your child has taken with their score or indicate which assessment your child
will take in the near future. This letter will remain with your student’s academic records regarding state graduation
requirements. Students not participating in the PARCC assessment will report to an alternate classroom location only if
the letter is received in the form requested and by the date requested. If you have any questions, contact the principal.

Information about the PARCC assessment and Common Core State Standards can be found on our district Web site,, under the Parent Center. Thank you for your understanding and support.
