Grading Policies

Grading Policy for College Algebra:

Tests, Quizzes, Journals, and Projects – 50% of the grade. This class includes many projects which will be worked on individually and with partners. Journals are writing assignments in which students help identify strategies for their learning.

Homework - 20% of the grade. Homework is important to reinforce the concepts learned in class.  Students ALWAYS have homework. I will contact parents/guardians if your student is not completing the homework because it is so critical.

Do Nows & Classwork – 30% of the grade. Active student participation is important for the learning process and this will include student presentations.

 

Grading Policy for Essentials of Geometry:

Unit Exams - 15% of the grade. These are district made assessments. Unit exams are administered to assess a student's understanding of each unit for the geometry curriculum. 

Daily Homework - 10% of the grade. Students will rarely get daily homework. See alternate assessments.

Alternate Assessments – 20% of the grade. This includes journals, performance tasks, delta math or HRW, and out of class projects, Note that all homework is graded based on correctness (students have multiple tries for Delta and HRW). Homework is important to reinforce the concepts learned in class.  Students ALWAYS have homework. I will contact parents/guardians if your student is not completing the homework because it is so critical.

Traditional Assessments – 40% of the grade. This includes in class quizzes, in class projects and assignments graded for correctness.  NOTE- Teacher help is not allowed for a traditional assessment except to re-clarify directions.  

Class Participation – 15% of the grade. This includes class preparedness, contributions to class discussions & presenting work.
