Science Department

Welcome to the Science Department

Science Department at Piscataway High School is dedicated to providing students with learning opportunities that are designed to build scientific literacy, critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills through the process of inquiry.

In the Science Department’s core course pathways, focus is placed on weaving together Disciplinary Core Ideas, Cross Cutting Concepts and Science and Engineering practices to provide enriched learning experiences. We offer support, academic, and accelerated core programs, and additionally offer The Health Sciences Academy, a structured four-year pathway of science courses in preparation for post-secondary allied health college and career opportunities.

We also offer a robust set of science electives including 5 AP science courses – rigorous Advanced Placement Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental, AP Physics C and AP Physics C with a focus on Mechanics. For all of these AP science courses, in May, students will take the Advanced Placement Exams administered by the College Board and potentially earn college credits during their HS careers.

We also offer 3 dual enrollment courses with Rutgers University School of Health Professions, which are Anatomy and Physiology I for the health sciences, Anatomy and Physiology II for the health sciences, and Dynamics for healthcare in Society. Upon successful completion of these courses, students will be eligible to take the Health Science Careers standardized exams to determine college credit. Upon graduation, students can potentially earn up to 14 Rutgers credits during their HS careers.

Additionally we offer a host of semester or full year general electives to interest each diverse student in our PWAY community. In these courses, students develop scientific reasoning skills as a way of understanding the natural world and solving real life problems.

● Marine Biology

Thank you for your interest in the science department and its core programs, elective offerings, and clubs and activities here at Piscataway High School. One of our most important goals embedded in each of our course offerings is to provide meaningful experiences that spark students’ curiosity for science and ignite a lifelong passion for learning.
