Young poets at Piscataway High School showed great creativity and stage presence at their annual Poetry Extravaganza! Seven students in the Contemporary Poetry & Performance class each memorized and performed three original poems for the Wednesday, May 28, event – to great acclaim by the audience in the PHS choir room. “It felt like a piece of each person’s soul was on display,” one student said. A teacher in the audience added: “Every person in that audience could feel the life-enhancing power of creativity and trust through the medium of poetry in that room.” Contemporary Poetry & Performance is a full-year elective class designed to help students hone their skills in crafting and voicing their original poetry. The class is taught by Christopher Hamas, who is pictured with his students.
