More than a dozen Piscataway High School students learned about navigating the political process in a visit to the Center for Youth Political Participation at Rutgers University!

AP Government and Politics students and members of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society attend the Young Leaders Conference on March 27. Students worked with RU Ready Civics interns to learn about the four pillars of civic engagement and political participation.
They chose a fictional scenario based on something that resonated with them all: school policies regarding bathroom usage. Students worked collaboratively to develop strategies to effectively raise awareness and motivate community members to engage in the political process and shape the discussion on the policy.

They evaluated the policy from different perspectives to practice the importance of considering different views before committing to a course of action. Students left with an effective compromise solution, first-hand knowledge of the opportunities afforded by universities, and an appreciation for the importance of a democratic society.

Rho Kappa is guided by adviser Ryan Wernlund.
